I went to pitchforkfest and spent a bunch of money, which was totally worth it, but ever since I spent that colossal wad of cash it seems like money is being drained from me by a higher power.
Everything that has caused me to lose money recently:
- I got invited to a Wailers concert, which I kind of expected to be mostly terrible. With nothing better to do, I went knowing this in the back of my mind and being fully aware that I would owe a friend $35. It was even less worth it than I already knew it was going to be. One original member of a band plus a bunch of replacements that look vaguely Jamaican and playing your original band's covers should not allow you to use/abuse your once reputable name, nor does it make any sense as to why the fuck you would charge $35 for it, or why anyone would want to pay that much to see it.
- About a month ago, I was returning a movie to RedBox (yeah, I know...) when I was approached by two kids who looked about my age. They said they had walked all the way from their house, which was about a mile or two away, to rent a movie, only to realize they had left their debit cards at home. They asked if I could swipe my card for them so they could get a movie, and that they would give me $2 in cash to cover what would be taken from my card, and then some in case they kept it for an extra night. Since this seemed understandable I went ahead and did it, and stood there awkwardly while they scanned through the selection for about ten minutes, finally deciding on Ninja Assassin. I swiped for them, asked only that they please return it afterward, and went on my way. A month later, I looked at my bank records and saw that RedBox had charged me $30. As you can probably guess, the kids never returned the movie, and my faith in the fundamental goodness and honesty of all people lessened significantly.
- Browsing a certain local record collector's ebay site, I came across a 1st pressing of Brighten The Corners by Pavement for only six dollars. The ridiculously low charge, from what I could tell, came from the fact that it was rather worn, although the seller claimed that it would still play. The shipping charge brought it to about $10, and that along with a $25 used copy of Murmur made it seem like my first experience ever using ebay was pretty successful. I was really excited when a record-shaped package arrived in the mail about a week later, but I opened it to find that, although the REM was intact just as I expected it to be, the copy of Brighten the Corners was a CD, and I had failed to read this in the description because all I saw was "1ST PRESS!!!", and not the fact that it was the 1st pressing of a CD (why on earth would you advertise that?). So I paid $10 for a CD that I not only already own the same copy of, but also only originally paid $5 for, and my first copy wasn't cracked and scratched like this one was.
- My Dad gave me a 20 dollar-bill to pay me back for putting gas in my mom's car, which I was then going to use to pay off another debt I owed to someone. Somewhere between my house, BP, and the person's house, the 20 dollar-bill vanished.
- I went to the casino for a friend's 18th birthday. The first two times I ever had any kind of gambling-related experience, I scored a total of about $150, and the third and last time I had previously gone, I lost about $40, so I felt like it could go either way. The first bad omen that appeared was that I put a $10 bill in the virtual poker machine, believing I was gambling for $1 a hand. It turned out the machine bet one a double-or-nothing basis, so I lost it on the first hand. The other $40 I lost were lost own my own volition, but it was partially because I felt like I had to try and win that $10 back.
- Since this is getting long-winded, last night I basically received a ticket for underage drinking that is going to carry a fine of at least $150, probably more. I had the highest BAC of anyone else who was underage at the party (a whopping .127, which says a lot about how out-of-control and chaotic this party had gotten before the police arrived, clearly not having anything better to do), so chances are they're going to come down on me the hardest.
This is where I say something like "FML teehee". Of course basically all of these things are a result of my own negligence and/or stupidity, which makes it sting that much more. Am I dumb and irresponsible?

If Blockbuster adopted Redbox's payement policy and made everything a dollar a night for as long as you keep it, or maybe their regular prices for week-long rentals, I feel as if it would no longer matter that you can't set up Blockbuster kiosks in weird places like McDonalds. The tank-top wearing folk who see it as killing two enormous prehistoric birds with one stone by getting a Big Mac and Avatar in a single location will be all that's left to fend for RedBox. Blockbuster's relatively superior selection would, I think, override its conveience. Or, at least I hope it would. Going to RedBox makes me feel like I'm doing something cheap and dirty. The money they would lose by potentially charging less for movies would be made up for by the fact that more people would be swayed toward a place where there are more than two movies (three if you're lucky) that are actually worth choosing from for your dollar. Although, this is on the shakey assumption that people want to watch good movies. I mean, sure, they might have to downsize initially to make up for some lost money, but optimistically it would all make up for itself by crippling the major advantage RedBox has over it.
If someone asks you to detail their car, you have to expect at least one unfunny Karate Kid joke when they're giving you instructions.
I watched an episode of Dharma and Greg on youtube for some reason earlier.

Transcriptions from the baby on the other side of the curtain when I was in the ER the other day, as copied from my cell phone:
"ahhhhhh muh muh muh. uhhhh AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. muh muh muh uh... eh... eh... uhhhh huh AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. wuh. wuh. uh... uh... uhAHHHHHHHHHH.
Sleep...
Awake again.
Uh... ohuhehehhh...uh... AHHHHHHHH. AHHHHHHHHH. uh. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. uh... bubiduhbubhidlaksjd;lfk.... uh ahhhhh. AHH. ah. ah. uh...
Asleep again?
Sigh.
Sound like he just swished spit around his in his mouth.
Silence"
I was in the ER because I was having heart palpitations, but I first found this out from going to the school nurse about feeling dizzy. The dizziness persisted for a few days, so I went to the doctor, who seemed like he was in a really huge rush when examining me, and was told I have directional vertigo. Yes, that's a real condition apparently, with medication and everything. It means that when I shift my body or turn my head certain ways, I become dizzy.
I wonder if certain shifts in directions can cause other phenomenon. Maybe some people have condiment vertigo, and when they rotate their head 360 degrees, condiments squirt out of their finger tips.
